HVAC TIPS — Furnace
* Check to make sure that you have power to your furnace. You can check for power at the circuit breaker panel. There is also a power switch on the furnace that should be in the “on” position.
* Also check for gas service by checking other gas appliances (stove, dryer, oven, water heater) to make sure they have gas service.
* If you have a thermostat with a battery, most digital thermostats do, check or change the battery. This may affect any programming that you currently have in your thermostat.
* Check your filter. All furnaces have a filter and changing your filter is the single most important thing you can do for your system. We suggest checking your filter monthly to make sure that it is clean. If you have an electronic air filter or permanent filter, these filters must be washed several times during the course of the year.
* Check for a fault code flashing at the furnace. There is usually a description of the problem to match the code written on the door of the furnace.
HVAC TIPS — Humidifier
* Check to make sure the water is on. The water line running to your humidifier has a valve on it, make sure that it is in the “on” position.
* Change your humidifier pad once a year.
HVAC TIPS — Hot Water Boiler
* Check to make sure the pilot is lit.
* Check to make sure that you have power to your boiler. You can check for power at the circuit breaker panel. There is also a power switch on the boiler that should be in the “on” position.

HVAC TIPS — Air Conditioner
* Check to make sure that you have power to your furnace and air conditioning unit. You can check for power at the circuit breaker panel. There is also a power switch on the furnace that should be in the “on” position.
* Check your filter. All furnaces have a filter and changing your filter is the single most important thing you can do for your system. We suggest checking your filter monthly to make sure that it is clean. If you have an electronic air filter or permanent filter, these filters must be washed several times during the course of the year.
* Make sure to turn your humidifier off during the summer season. You can so this by turning the humidistat dial to the “off” or 0% position.
* Make sure that nothing is caught in or obstructing air flow to your condensing unit outside, including, plants, bushes, decks, etc. Trim any shrubs surrounding your unit.
* Hose down your condensing unit twice during the summer to clean it of any debris (especially during cottonwood season). Make sure that power to the unit has been shut off.
HVAC TIPS — Hot Water Heater
* Check to make sure the pilot is lit.
* Also check for gas service by checking other gas appliances (stove, dryer, oven, water heater).
* If the water is not hot enough, check the thermostat (near the bottom of the tank) to make sure that it is at a reasonable setting. Be careful not to set the temperature too high to prevent scalding.
* If the water heater is leaking (water on the floor), guess what? You need a new one.
* When buying a hot water heater make sure to check the recovery rate to assure that you will get an adequate amount of hot water.
